Question
If I download Juggler and use it for free, is there a limit to how long I can use it for?

Answer
As long as you agree to and follow the terms of use. You can use the free version of Juggler for as long as you like without any obligation to upgrade it to the full version.

Question
Is it essential to have an internet connection to use Juggler?

Answer
It depends on what you want to do. Juggler can gather, sort and manage email address lists offline. You can compose and spell-check messages offline. If however you want to send messages with Juggler, or extract email addresses from online documents, then you do of course need an internet connection.

Question
How can I change the spell-checking dictionary to a different language?

Answer
Juggler spell checking dictionaries are currently available in the following flavours... UK English, US English, Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch. There is no charge for adding dictionaries. If you need a different dictionary you can download it from here. If you wish, you can install all seven dictionaries so that you can instantly choose which one you want to use at the start of each mail composition session.

Question
Some of my mail gets 'bounced back' undelivered. What is the cause of this?

Answer
It's possible that the recipient's email account no longer exists. Perhaps they have changed their internet service provider. It has also been known for mail not to get delivered due to temporary breakdowns in service. (Bounced-back messages will normally indicate a reason for the failed delivery).

Note that some email addresses won't accept messages sent through relay servers. If you use a relay type mail server and experience problems of this nature, try using either the ESMTP or POP user authentication features of Juggler in accordance with instructions from your service provider.

Question
I have downloaded Juggler but when I double-click the file it doesn't install.

Answer
There may be a temporary problem with the server you have downloaded from. Try downloading again from a different location.

Question
We are trying to advertise our business on the internet and believe that it is a good idea to contact prospective customers by email. After all, we do offer a valuable service which many people will be glad to find out about. What constitutes acceptable use of Juggler and what does not?

Answer
There are numerous problems associated with unsolicited email. First and foremost is the problem of discrimination. Juggler can make it easy to gather lots of email addresses indiscriminately and then blast a message out into cyberspace in the hope that someone who receives it will be glad. Juggler must never be used in this way. If you use this scattergun approach then someone will be hurt, and you will suffer the consequences. You will be blacklisted and your ISP will most likely close your mail account. You will also be banned from using Juggler again. Email is a wonderful communication tool, it's cheap and it's environmentally friendly... that is until it becomes a nuisance. Estimates indicate that approximately one third of the email messages sent via the world wide web can be attributed to unsolicited commercial/bulk mailings, otherwise known as SPAM, this is basically 'unwanted email'. These bulk mailings place a heavy burden on mail servers and create major problems for internet service providers. The matter is taken very seriously and specialist investigators and new international laws mean that offenders can be made to pay.

Before sending bulk email, consider the following facts...

1. Many people have more than one email address.

2. ".com" and ".net" email addresses are owned by people all over the world, few of these people understand more than one out of a hundred possible languages.

3. Most email users already receive some unwanted email every day, they already hate spammers.

4. People are increasingly using small, portable devices or other non-computer devices for checking their email.

Knowing these facts makes it easy to see why people get annoyed. They receive messages which have no relevance to them (perhaps in a strange language) and often they will receive the same message more than once. With potentially slow and/or expensive network connections, limited screen-sizes and storage capacity, recipients of spam get even more annoyed. Many will take some action against you and others will simply vow never buy from you, even if they might have been interested before your email arrived. Either way, you will suffer. What you need is an opt-in, opt-out system whereby people are on your mailing list because they want to be on it.

Here are some of the things you can do to help make the world-wide email system better for everyone...

  • Don't send spam. There are lots of ways to advertise widely on the internet for little or no cost. Examples include search engines, link exchanges with other sites, banner exchange schemes.

  • If you want to introduce youself to someone by email, send them a personal message which explains how you come to have their email address and why you are writing to them in particular. (e.g. Dear Joe, I learned from your excellent web site that you collect bottletops. I wonder whether you would like to receive a monthly email newsletter called "Bottletop News"....etc...)

  • Build an opt-in mailing list where people choose to be included (or excluded). Make it easy for people to join by placing on your web page a mini-form or an email link which says something like "Join the mailing list". Remember, you only want people who want to receive your messages.

  • Don't send HTML formatted email. Many recipients won't be able read it. Format standards vary and it can be especially awkward for recipients who read their email offline or who use one of the many small-screen mobile devices which are becoming increasingly popular for sending and retrieving email. If you want to include graphical content, then send an email containing a link to a page you have uploaded to your web server. The reduced size of the message will save time and bandwith for you, for the internet as a whole and for your recipient who will consequently have a much more positive attitude to your message. This way, you can also offer different display options or perhaps downloadable documents in different formats. All you need in your email message is one or two sentences and the web-page link.

  • Use email lists only from reputable sources. Do not buy or use any email list unless it is guaranteed that it is comprised only of recipients who have chosen to receive messages of the relevant nature. Take special care if the list is not brand new. Sending mail to someone who has specifically asked to be removed from the list is a definite no no. You need to know that all removal requests have been complied with or at least have the removal list available so you can process it youself. If the list will be passed on to other's, you should undertake to feed-back all removal requests to the source of the list. Check how frequently the list has been used by others.

  • Never buy a pre-compiled disk of email address lists.

  • Don't trawl the internet indiscriminately for looking for email addresses.

  • Don't ever buy anything from anybody who sends you spam.

  • Report instances of spam to any relevant internet service providers. Spammers CAN be traced even when they don't actually provide authentic identification. Send a copy of the email with headers intact to ISP's abuse invesigation departments e.g. abuse@....com. If you believe that Juggler has been used in a spam operation, then send us a copy pased into this form. Please try to include all the email headers.

  • Never deal with a company which sends any email without providing their name and a correct address for replies.

  • Don't be fooled by paragraphs in email messages which say that some country's law says it's ok to send unsolicited bulk email and that it isn't spam. Spam is spam and there are laws in place to make sure that offenders can be dealt with severely, especially if they attempt to disguise their identity, use mail services without proper authority or are in contravention of their 'terms of use' agreement.

  • When sending email, make it easy for the owner of an address to reply to you by email. Just a telephone number is NOT acceptable. Even if it is a toll-free number, it will almost certainly be expensive for somebody to call you from another country. You should also include your name and business name if you have one.

  • ALWAYS remove an address from your list when asked to do so by the owner of the address. this is a legal requirement in most countries of the world. Juggler can help you build a removal list and then automatically remove any addresses on that list from any other lists you have.

  • Question
Is it possible to instantly select addresses by multiple criteria. For example, select all the addresses in a list which begin with any of the letters A, B or C?

    Answer
Yes. In the Select by Criterion dialog, click the List button. This allows you to list up to a dozen criteria for selecting addresses. For example enter !A, !B and !C to instantly select all the addresses beginning with these letters.

    Question
How can I quickly select multiple addresses which end in ".net" whilst avoiding having an address containing ".nettles" selected also?

    Answer
In the Select by Criterion dialog, enter ".net!" (without the quotes). The exclamation mark after ".net" tells Juggler to not select addresses which don't actually end in ".net". Similarly, placing an exclamation mark before a criterion string tells juggler to only select addresses which begin with that string. e.g. entering "info" will cause "dud@uselessinfo.co" to be selected, whereas entering "!info" would not.

    Question
I don't seem to be able to send more than 100 emails at one time. What could be the reason for this?

    Answer
Some mail servers limit the number of recipients that can be addressed in one batch. The solution is to select a smaller number of addresses when sending mail. You can use the Edit - Select by Criterion function to select only a particular type of address e.g. ones ending in ".com". When the mail has been sent to those addresses, click to delete them or move them into to the red list or the editor window, then select more addresses to send to. When the total number of addresses in the green list is sufficiently small, use the Edit - Select All function to check the remaining addresses.

    Question
How long does it take to send messages?

    Answer
This depends on a number of factors, including... the memory and processing power of your computer, the bandwidth of your internet connection to the mail server, the speed of the mail server, the amount of other traffic the server is handling, the number of recipients you are addressing, the size of the message, the sending mode (Address as CCs is fastest) and whether you are using the ESMTP Authentication or Authenticate by POP features. (With either of these, there will be a brief delay while the server logs you in.) If you are sending to a lot of addresses via a slow connection, be patient and wait until Juggler confirms that the messages have been sent. If you interfere with the program while it is sending in Address as CCs mode, you won't know how many, or if any, messages were sent. If you are not using Address as CCs mode the you can halt the mailing process by clicking the space bar.

    Question
Is there a maximum file size that can be loaded for scanning?

    Answer
Whilst there is no set limit to the maximum file size, Windows sometimes (not always) reports an "out of memory" problem when loading large files in excess of three to five megabytes. With such large files, there is usually a drop in speed also. With large files, it is a good idea to save or export a copy of the file in either plain text or delimited format. This will give you a much smaller file to load into Juggler. If you encounter a memory error when loading a large file, try again after disabling the Scan on Load feature, then start the scan when the file has successfully loaded.

Note: Don't use a file compression utility to make the files smaller for loading into Juggler. Compressing a file can completely alter the file structure and make it impossible for Juggler to exctract email addresses. If you have a compressed file in the first place, you should decompress it before loading it into Juggler.

    Question
Is there a limit to the number of email addresses that Juggler can handle in one list?

    Answer
There is a theoretical limit of 32,000 email addresses per list. However, a list of that size is a bit excessive and unless you have a supercomputer, things could get very slow or even grind to a halt due to memory limitations. You could also run into awkward problems if for example there was a line failure while sending email. Depending on your system memory and processor speed, we recommend that you use Juggler to split lists into more manageable chunks with around 500 to 2000 addresses maximum in each.

To guard against possible data loss due to system failure etc. Always save your lists by placing all the addresses in the editor window and then selecting File-Save.

    Question
Can lists prepared with Juggler be used with other email programs?

    Answer
All kinds of software including email clients (e.g. MS Outlook, Netscape Mail etc. and spreadsheet or database applications allow lists of email addresses to be either imported as a file or pasted in as text. Juggler's options for adding delimiters to lists make it easy to prepare lists in exactly the right format for other programs to use.
